What type of people generally join your tours?
Most people who come on our tours are looking for something a bit different, they come from all over the world and are often backpacking around Australia. The general age range is between 18 and 38, but sometimes some extra adventurous older people come along.

What kind of vehicles do you use?
Our vehicles are modern 4WD (mostly Toyota Landcruiser) which are quite small in terms of tour vehicles and carry up to 10 passengers. Naturally they are fully equipped to tackle the outback.

How do I book for one of your treks?
It’s very simple……just click here.

Where do you pick us up from?
Gecko Trek will pick you up from your accommodation in Adelaide CBD or Alice Springs but you must inform us of your location.

Do I need to confirm my booking?
Yes you must confirm your booking and pick up point 24 hours before departure. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of your booking.

What do I need to bring?
Bring clothes for required duration of tour (usually a change of clothes for every second day is adequate). Note that December to April are warm, but in other months it can get quite cool…especially at night so bring warm clothes and something warm to sleep in. If you have wet weather gear then it may pay to bring that.

Bring a good quality sleeping bag and pillow if you have one. We can supply you with a sleeping bag at a small extra fee.
Toiletries and towel (one for both shower and swimming), sturdy walking shoes/boots, sun hat, sun block cream, insect repellant, small torch, sunglasses, water bottle (1.5l min.), small day pack, camera and plenty of film and a few of your favourite CD’s.

Is there a limit to the amount of luggage I can bring?
One backpack and one day pack is acceptable and your gear shouldn’t weigh more than 20 kg.

What sort of food do you supply?
We supply plenty of food, including fresh fruit and vegetables. Mostly we cook on the campfire in the evenings. If you are a vegetarian we can cater for you and would appreciate your informing us of this at the time of booking. If you have any other special dietary requirements, then you may need to bring your own food.

How much money do I need to bring?
That depends on what optional activites and souvenirs you puchase, but you could easily get by on AUD$10.00 per day if you don’t drink too much! We include almost everything in the cost of the tour.

Are there toilets and showers at the camp locations?
Because we camp out in the bush in remote areas there are not always toilets and showers available at camp. Hopefully you are prepared to use a bush toilet and we are conscious of the need to deal with this in an ecologically friendly manner. Don’t worry there are plenty of men and women who have never done it this way before, but have become accustomed to the bush method on our tour.
We generally have the opportunity to use a real bathroom most days along the way.

Do I have to help with camp duties?
The travellers on our tours must be prepared to help with food preparation, cleaning up, setting up and packing camp, collecting firewood etc. These are all part of the experience of such an expedition and are actually fun when you get some teamwork happening.

Do you supply tents?
Generally conditions allow us to sleep in swags, which is an Australian bush tradition. (swags are basically a mattress, pillow and blankets or sleeping bag all rolled up in canvas which become your portable bedroom). We do, however, carry tents for those who don’t enjoy the pleasure of sleeping out under the stars or for when conditions become uncomfortable for the swags. There are enough tents for the whole group on a twin share basis.
